A small winter environment inspired by Japanese culture and imagery where the player is able to walk around and observe the simulation.
In Unity I wanted to create as many original objects as possible. I do like the final look of everything, but I had to cut down some of the space due to time restraints. All objects in the scene were created by myself in Maya, with the exception of the trees. Total time to complete was around 10 hours.
Full Sail University Project to construct a winter scene with a Japanese theme.
This project was created in Unity with models created by me and imported from Maya using basic modeling knowledge and techniques. All models within the scene are original with the exception to the trees and terrain pieces. The houses were just cubes with an extrude and the same goes for the doors. I was unsure how exactly I wanted to texture this, because it was the first project I had the opportunity to create in unity. Ultimately, I enjoy the look and feel of the overall simulation.
Problems:
Frame rate issues due to particle system being too big within the game world.
Trees and terrain in combination with the particle system slowed frame rate down drastically at a point.
Light bulb prefabs and colors did not work correctly due to inexperience and overwriting of prefabs.
Slope and walking difficulties attributed to the poorly made ground and slope colliders.
The particle system went through a few changes during this project. I wanted the snow to hit the ground and then dissipate. This was ultimately achieved, but after the sky was turned into a surreal white fireball.
